Another preview from my upcoming poetry book.
I have always been intensely stubborn, which has its mix of darkness and light. One thing I’ve always known for sure, is that no one can snuff me out. I am for me. You do not get to decide who I am, or who I become. What I give over to you is my choice. I’ve made plenty of poor choices, especially in my intimate relationships, but I made them with my eyes open.
We have to fight for the light inside, for that voice within us that we quieted when we were young. Your light, the very essence of who you are is in there. It’s the part of you that lights up with wonder, that rages in the face of injustice. This is a time to be disturbed, to seek within and restore that which is pure, natural, and animal. Let it unfold, let it spill out, let it split you open. Whatever you do – do not let it die.
