Misconceptions of Surrender
tightened round,
arm then neck
take me serpent
make me sweat
kill me off
a noble feat
let me guide you
tame the beast
go to sleep now
rest, my king
she lives again
this broken thing
I wrote this when I was just beginning to understand what it meant to surrender. Submission and vulnerability are often misunderstood as positions of weakness, when in reality, these are where we garner our truest power.
The toughest challenge lies in finding a suitable party who can honor the gift and heft of our surrender. Most are willing, yet ill-equipped for the escape from ego it demands. You must not surrender to those who need it or ask for it, as this would diminish and devalue your gift.
Surrender occurs when you have multiple parties who are committed to freedom, who desire the song of their truest voices. When someone else can witness your authentic song, and you theirs, it is bliss. It is not sustainable or even meant to last, but it creates something that didn’t exist before, and that carries forward inside you both.
I hope you experience this type of surrender at least once in your life and carry the spoils back to the imperfect world that marches on…
